the best people

Today is a special day!
Kevin Cooper at KC Books & Music invited me over to his site as a guest on “Book Talk,” and I happily accepted.
I’ve decided to take this opportunity for something a bit different. You know all those photographs that appear on the various covers of The Best Advice So Far? Well, I’m excited to be able to introduce you to each of those very real people and to tell you about the influence each has had on me and on the writing of the book.
So, without further ado … follow me on over to Kevin’s place!

First time I’ve seen footprints leading to my blog, Erik. Lol. Thanks!
Along the shore, no less! That’s where I imagined you live: just up the beach. 🙂
I love the footprints! How fun. 🙂 Can I copy? I do “follow the dragon” or something. You are so clever!
Absolutely! (I’ll even make it for you if you like, though you’re pretty hand with the graphics.)
I’m going to play with images, Erik, and may come up with a few. If I get stuck I’ll definitely pester you 🙂
Not a pester at all! (BTW, I just sent you a “prize” via email.)
I saw them. Awesome. 🙂
Loved your guest post, Erik! I clicked on the link too late to leave a comment — they’ve been closed — so I’ve left one here. I admire that as much care went into the design of your book as its content. I write fiction, but I encode so much of it — the locations and seasons and names of characters — with information either germane to the narrative or personal to me. Even though a reader doesn’t necessarily “get” every reference, I think he nonetheless senses the depth and richness to which all of those “small details” contribute. Nice job, pal!
Thanks, Sean. In both our situations, I think infusing our work with personal details also makes for good conversation and “interest piquers” for readers. For instance, I can see you dropping little trivia tidbits into fan emails along the way, which would make you and your book feel like an inclusive experience for fans, rather than just a book they bought.
